US ARMY CORP OF ENGINEERS VICKSBURG DISTRICT AWARDS $3.4 MILLION DOLLAR GRANT TO THE TOWN OF MARION

The Town of Marion recently received a $3.4 million dollar grant through the US Army Corp of Engineering's Section 592 Program. This is the largest grant the Town of Marion has ever received.

"The grant will be utilized to construct an additional water well, treatment plant and other water system improvements. This project will provide a more reliable water supply to the Towns growing residential and commercial areas and also allow the Town to better serve the Sonny Montgomery Industrial Park.", says Mayor Larry Gill.

The Section 592 Program provides environmental assistance to non-federal interests in Mississippi. Assistance may be in the form of design and construction assistance for water-related environmental infrastructure and resource protection and development projects in Mississippi.

Design work for this project has already begun and Construction is anticipated to begin as early as this summer.

"We're very excited about this opportunity to enhance the quality of life for our residents and business community. This is a gamechanger for Marion, MS and all of Lauderdale County. We are going to be in position to capitalize on economic development possibilities in our area!", Mayor Larry Gill said.
