The Town of Marion will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, 2025, with Town Hall and the Water Department closed for the day. This annual closure allows staff and residents to pause and pay tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, is a time-honored tradition in the United States—a day set aside to remember and honor members of the armed forces who died in the line of duty. It serves as a powerful reminder of the cost of freedom and the enduring legacy of those who laid down their lives to protect it.
As we honor those fallen heroes, we echo the powerful words:"Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it… it flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it."
We encourage all Marion residents to take a moment this Memorial Day to reflect on the sacrifices made by our military personnel. One meaningful way to do this locally is by visiting the historic Confederate Cemetery, located on Confederate Drive in Marion. This solemn site stands as a tangible piece of history and a quiet place for remembrance and respect.
Town services will resume regular operations on Tuesday, May 27. In case of emergency during the holiday closure, residents are reminded to dial 911.
We wish everyone a safe and peaceful Memorial Day. Please take this opportunity to reflect, remember, and honor. From visiting local memorials to sharing stories with loved ones, every gesture helps ensure that the legacy of our fallen heroes lives on.
