The Town of Marion is excited to celebrate the return of professional baseball to our region with the launch of the Meridian Blues and their partnership with the Mid America League. This milestone marks an exciting new chapter not only for Meridian, but for surrounding communities like Marion, Mississippi as well.
Professional baseball brings more than games to the field — it brings regional energy, family-friendly entertainment, and new opportunities for youth engagement and local businesses. When our neighboring communities thrive, Marion thrives alongside them.
Mayor Larry Gill shared his enthusiasm for what this moment means for the region:
“Professional baseball returning to our region is something to truly celebrate. It brings people together, creates opportunity, and strengthens our communities. Marion is proud to support the Meridian Blues and be part of this exciting momentum.”
Adding to the excitement, the Meridian Blues have invited the community to help name their brand-new mascot — a red fox, inspired by Mississippi’s official state mammal. Known for being fast, fearless, and full of personality, the fox represents the pride, energy, and edge that runs throughout our state and region.
This mascot-naming opportunity is especially meaningful for young people. From daycare classrooms and school clubs to churches and college groups, residents are encouraged to get creative and leave their fingerprint on history by submitting name ideas.
Baseball has a unique way of bringing people together, and moments like this remind us how connected our communities truly are. The Town of Marion encourages residents to support the Meridian Blues, attend games, and take part in this exciting season ahead — including helping name the mascot.
This summer, baseball is back — and Marion, Mississippi will be cheering right along with it.
